WINTER STORM 2025 | PREPARATION & TIPS

Winter STORM 2025

The first big winter storm of 2025 is on its way to Houston, and while snowfall and icy roads are rare, they present unique challenges for drivers when they do occur. At Elite Collision Centers, your safety is our top priority, and we’re here to share essential tips for navigating the roads during the storm this week.

WINTER STORM 2025 PREPARATION

Stay Informed: Check local weather forecasts and traffic updates regularly. If conditions are hazardous, avoid driving if possible. View these links for local traffic and weather updates:  Transtar and SpaceCityWeather.

Inspect Your Vehicle: Some items to check to make sure your car is prepared for the inclement weather include:

    • Ensure your tires have adequate tread and are properly inflated.
    • Fill your windshield washer fluid with one designed for freezing temperatures.
    • Keep your gas tank at least half full to prevent fuel line freezing.
    • Verify that your battery, brakes, and windshield wipers are in good condition.

Pack an Emergency Kit: Include essentials like blankets, water, snacks, a flashlight, phone chargers, a first-aid kit, and traction aids like kitty litter or sand.

WINTER STORM 2025 DRIVING TIPS IN SNOW OR ICE

As we prepare for the winter storm 2025 and you must drive, these tips can help increase your safety. While staying home is the safest option during icy conditions, if you must go out, these tips will help you navigate the roads more safely:

Reduce Your Speed:Driving slower gives  you better control and more time to react to road conditions.

Increase Following Distance: Maintain at least 6–8 seconds of space between your vehicle and the one in front of you.

Avoid Sudden Movements: Accelerate, brake, and steer gently to prevent skidding.

Engage Low Gears: Use lower gears for better traction, especially on hilly terrain.

Skip Cruise Control: Keeping manual control of your car is critical on icy roads.

Brake with Care: If your car begins to skid, ease off the accelerator and gently steer in the direction you want to go. Avoid slamming the brakes.

WINTER STORM 2025 HAZARD TO WATCH

Watch for Black IceBlack ice is nearly invisible but creates a slippery surface. Be cautious on roads that appear shiny or wet.

Cautious on Bridges and OverpassesThese surfaces freeze faster than regular roads. Reduce your speed and avoid sudden movements.

If You Get StuckGently rock your car back and forth by shifting between drive and reverse. Avoid spinning your wheels to prevent getting further stuck.

If driving conditions are too dangerous, the safest choice is to stay home until the roads are clear. Should you find yourself stuck or stranded, remain inside your vehicle to stay warm and wait for assistance to arrive.
